Novel Destinations
Novel Destinations is our theme for this year's Adult Summer Reading Program at the Tulare County Library. The program will run from June 11 to July 23, 2011. We have many exciting activities planned with a different continent featured each week. We are kicking off the program with a cheese and chocolate tasting on Saturday, June 11th at 5:30 pm.
Each Tuesday at 3 pm there will be a documentary film shown in the blue room upstairs and each Thursday (also in the Blue room at 3 pm) we will have a book discussion group. The first week we will discuss books set in Antarctica or one of the Pacific Islands. The second week , Asia and the Middle East; week three, South America; week four, Africa; and week five, Europe and the last week any country or book we have not discussed before.
Each Saturday (except July 2nd, a holiday weekend) we will have special programming starting with the Polynesian Paradise Dancers from Southern California on June 18th at 10 am. On June 25th we will feature local belly dancer, Andalee. July 9th we will show some short videos on packing what you need in just a single carry-on followed by a demonstration. July 16th we will have Jennifer Farrenkopf (harpist with the Tulare County Symphony) playing her Celtic Harp. Our finale on July 23rd will remain a secret for now but you will not want to miss it.
This year we will be collecting donations of new or gently used suitcases to give to local foster children.
There are three other ways to participate in our Adult Summer Reading Program besides coming to our programs. You can play our Bingo game, write in our Dream Trip Journal, and show Where Have You Been? and Where Have You Read? on our maps.
Sign ups for the program begin Wednesday June 1st.
